Prism Sound Titan Use Review

This is a review of the Prism Sound Titan.

I got a Prism Sound product!

I finally did it! My long-time dream.

I haven’t been able to use it yet, but I’m happy to review it for now.

It sounds as good as the rumors say it does.

There’s also a recording file!

What is Prism Sound?

Prism Sound is a British manufacturer of fully professional products.

It is an independent company created by engineers who were formerly on the Neve team.

Although it is now a separate company, MASELEC was also originally a product of Prism Sound.

They are famous for their high-end comps and EQs, which are often seen in mastering studios.

Anyway, they are a manufacturer whose attention to sound is not half-baked.

Even today, they are still very popular in top studios.

That’s why the selling price is also very high…

If you’re a music producer, this is the brand you’ve been longing for!

Box open!

Box.

The box is really big for a 1U audio interface…

Taitaaan!

There is also a box inside.

Open it!

The manual. It’s all in English.

Accessories 1: Cables.

Attachment 2: Power cable and rack mounting kit.

By default, the part for attaching the rack screws is removed.

Attach this to the side and attach it to the rack case.

Body!

The model changed a bit in 2019 and the color is now black.

It used to be a light bronze-ish color? It seems it was.

It has rubber feet, so it can be used as is in a stationary position.

The back.Very simple.

There are 8 channels of outputs, including monitor outs.

Inputs are 8 channels, including 4 mic-in/line-in and 4 line-in only.

There are 2 channels of DI input on the front panel.

The only knobs are the monitor out and headphone out.

The volume control for the mic pre is done by the software.

The power supply is a universal 90-250V AC power supply.

And there was some cool stuff in it.

It was metal-like and very heavy.

I thought, “What the hell is this?”

It was USB.

When I plugged it into my PC, I found out that it contained drivers and a PDF manual for TITAN.

What a fancy thing to do.

So, it looks very simple!

There are no features to speak of at all!

It’s all about the sound! It’s all about the sound!

I was so excited to get ready for the listening.

Prepare to listen to sound.

I read the manual briefly and installed the driver on my PC first.

After installing the driver, it seems that I need to connect the unit and turn it on.

I followed the steps and the unit was recognized without any stress at all!

By the way, TITAN is only for USB2.0 connection.

The previous model, Orpheus, was FIREWIRE.

As for the connection, it is quite classic in the recent trend.

I’m sure you’ll be happy to know that I’m not the only one who has a problem with it!

And the dedicated app is up and running successfully.

This mixer app does a lot of the work.

As I found out later, this software is very well designed.

The response time for start-up and operation is very fast.

It is much easier to use than the UA APOLLO or ANTELOPE software I have.

There is no plug-in real-time recording function, which may be the reason why it is so light to use.

Listen to the sound!

Now, I’m waiting for you.

First time listening to Prism Sound products.

Let’s start with the headphones.

Click play…

You win!

You, the winner!

Wow.

That was something I’ve never heard before!

  • Sound is clearly separated.
  • Mid to low end is too pleasant
  • The sound connection is super smooth.
  • The highs are crisp and clear.
  • And yet, it sounds gentle!

I apologize for the mediocrity of the text.

But it’s like this: the sound is clear and crisp, but soft.

It’s not hard, so it feels really good. And yet, it is clear.

What the hell is this? It’s got punch.

A clear sound has an image of being hard and cold, but this is warm.

It’s quite the opposite of RME.

The softness and punch seems to be UA-like, …

I totally agree with you that it is popular in the pure audio world.

It’s amazing …

I’ll try to record it.

I could tell that the outgoing sound was the best.

And rumor has it that the AD part, or the recording, sounds really good too.

This time I compared the recording with my AIF.

  • ANTELOPE AUDIO Discrete 8 Synergy Core
  • UNIVERSAL AUDIO APOLLO X 6
  • Prism Sound Titan

These are the three models.

If I do say so myself, it’s a pretty impressive lineup!

The two models compared to TITAN are also high quality products that can be used for sound production.

How much of a difference will there really be?

The microphone is an AKG C414 XLS.

Record two tracks of acoustic guitar and pan it left and right.

For the rhythm, I used LOGIC X loop material.

TITAN seems to have an excellent mic pre,

  • Included mic preamps for each model
  • Line in from API 512C mic preamp

Recorded in two patterns.

-API512C-

I prepared a total of six files.

No plug-ins are included.

Only faders are used to adjust the volume.

Now, what a difference!

Attention to volume!
Be careful with the playback volume!

impressions

The volume of the APOLLO X+API was a little too loud…

Please turn it down. Sorry!

How did you like it?

To be honest, at a quick glance, I thought there was no big difference. I’m not sure.

To me, it’s easier to see the change with the mic pre than with the AIF.

But when I listened to it carefully….

The Titan is the best! It’s still good.

The sound image is bigger and the range is wider from high to low.

UA is tight, and ANTELOPE is gentle.

I haven’t tried the response when adding plugins in comparison, so I’m looking forward to that as well!!

If anything, there could be a big benefit to the sound output.

In my opinion, there is a bigger difference in the DA side than in the AD side.

There are more advantages on the monitor side than on the recording side.

Of course headphones, but I was more shocked when I heard the sound through speakers!

I haven’t done much with the monitor environment, but the separation is really good.

Especially the lows are very easy to see.

ANTELOPE was also my favorite, but when I listened to it on speakers, the difference was obvious.

I now understand why Prism Sound is in the mastering studio.

If the outs sound good, it’s a great advantage when sending back to analog gear.

I’ll be experimenting here gradually, looking forward to it!!!!

Extensive product lineup

Prism Sound also has products for high-end computer music!

If you don’t need multiple channels, use Lyra1 with 1 channel input.

Lyra2 is a 2-channel system.

It’s a bit outrageous, but it’s still over the price of the UA rack type…

I think it’s a great candidate if you want to get the best sound in computer music.

If you just want to listen, this is it! This is a reasonable DAC because it does not have a recording function.

If you want to use it for pure audio, I think this is a good candidate.

Here is the top of the line model with a mic pre for 8 channels.

In my opinion, if you want this, you must already have a mic pre.

I think TITAN is the best model.

I don’t even need a 4-mic pre, I want a cheaper model,…

Was it the right decision to buy Prism Sound?

Was it the right decision to buy it? Speaking of.

It’s the best of all possible worlds!

I’m going to use it all the time to get my money’s worth!

I was actually considering the higher-end ANTELOPE model, but…

ANTELOPE AUDIO Orion Studio Synergy Core

ANTELOPE AUDIO Orion Studio Synergy Core

I like the sound of the silver panel Synergy Core, and I’ve heard that the higher end ones sound a little different. I’ve heard that the higher end ones sound a little different.

However, it’s also very pricey.

So wouldn’t it be better to go for the top-of-the-line Prism Sound?

Big is better than small

This is what I feel.

Rather than upgrading your audio equipment little by little, it is often more profitable to spend a lot of money.

That’s what I think.

And I’m sure that decision won’t be wrong this time either!

Maybe I just want it to be…

Is it good deal.? If you ask me.

it’s a great deal!

The sound was beyond the price!

summary

That was my first review of TITAN!

Luckily, I have UA and ANTELOPE on hand, so I’ll try to write a more detailed comparison of the two.

Thank you for reading to the end!
