This is a review of the Audio Technica ATH-R70x(´◔౪◔)◞
I was so happy with the ATH-M70x that I bought additional ATH-R70x as well.

First time I’ve used the open headphones themselves, and they’re fantastic!
Let’s review them!
open a box!
I ordered it and it arrived the next day.
Excitedly, I opened the cardboard box.
For some reason, the box is more complicated than the M70x, and it took me a while to open it…
I open the box, and voila, here’s what I want!
The accessories came out from the bottom of the box.
A warranty card, a storage bag, and a cord.
The ATH-M70X came with three types of cords, but the ATH-R70X has only one long, straight type.
There are two connections to the headphones.
It seems that you can connect either of them to LR.
Main body!
The side is a metal plate with countless beehive shaped holes.
This is where unwanted sounds are released to the outside.
I wonder if the honeycomb structure is advantageous in terms of sound quality?
The head part has a double structure, with the top made of carbon and the cushion part being a spring mechanism.
Good springiness.
And the body is very light.
The sealed ATH-M70X was a little heavy, but I was very impressed with this one(´⊙౪⊙)۶
Now, attach the cord and start listening!
Listen to the sound
I skipped the aging process and listened to it right away(´◔౪◔)◞
The audio interface is ANTELOPE AUDIO Discrete 8 Synergy Core.
Start playback!
It sounds so natural! This is it!
As soon as I played it, I giggled.
This is it!
This is the sound. This is what I wanted!
It’s a very natural sound. This is good!
I saw a review online that said, “It’s like listening to sound through monitor speakers,” and it’s true!
Even though the sound is coming out of the headphones, it feels very airy.
And the left and right stereo feeling is wide!
There is no unpleasant sound bleeding, good overall balance, and most importantly, no unnecessary exaggeration at all.
“In terms of flatness, the ATH-M70X is flat enough, but the ATH-R70X has an even more acoustic flatness.
It depends on the genre of music you are making, but I like it a lot!
Let’s compare ATH-R70X and ATH-M70X in more detail.
Both models are currently positioned as the flagship models of Audio-Technica headphones.
However, each of them has a sound with quite a different character.
Of course, they share the same Audio-Technica characteristics.
So, let’s compare these two in a little more detail.
Here are my impressions of the ATH-M70x and ATH-R70x after comparing their sounds.

- Sealed type for less sound leakage
- Can be used for recording due to less sound leakage
- Overall balance is very good
- More crisp sound than ATH-R70X
- Pleasant midrange
- More treble here (hi-hats, cymbals, etc. have a pronounced bandwidth)
- Not as stereo as the ATH-R70X.
- Slightly harder to use for long hours because they are heavy.
- The fit is uncomfortable, as if the top of the head is constantly being pressed

- It is an open type, so it leaks sound.
- Cannot be used as a monitor for performance when recording because of sound leakage
- Overall balance is very good
- More natural and less exaggerated sound than ATH-M70X
- Pleasant sound for acoustic songs
- Highs are more subdued than the ATH-M70X. Not flashy.
- More stereo feeling than ATH-M70X.
- Very light and can be used for a long time.
- The fit is so good that the feeling of wearing them eventually disappears!
- It’s going to be very useful to get the full experience of the mix.
- If it were for home listening, I would definitely choose the ATH-R70X.
These are my thoughts!
And about the ear pads!
I think the ATH-M70x is more solid here and seems to be harder to deteriorate.
The ATH-R70x is made of a very water-absorbent material, so it may not be suitable for summer use (sweating is a problem).
I don’t want to imagine the moment of using it in sweat( ･ὢ･ )
Maybe that’s why the R70X is sold with ear pads separately.

We won’t know until the summer comes, but it may be difficult to replace them every year.
As you can see, both headphones have their good points and distinct features.
If I can keep both of them on hand, I can enjoy the benefits of each deliciously.
It is a luxury, but….
For those who want to use it hard
If you want to take your headphones outside and use them hard, the ATH-M70x is the way to go!
The reason is that the ATH-R70x’s construction is less forgiving and the build quality is more delicate.
-lightweight class-
It has a flimsy feel that could break easily if handled roughly.
The ATH-M70x is by far the most solidly built.
Both the head arm and the cord are thicker on this one!
ATH-R70x is not suitable for DJ use
Also, the ATH-R70x is not suitable for DJ play because the ear part hardly rotates.
From here,
It will only rotate so far.
Again, because of its delicate construction, it’s not suitable for live performance either.
I wouldn’t take the ATH-M70x outside as much as possible.
The price is so high that I would cry if it broke, you know?
By the way, the ear part of the ATH-M70x can be rotated 90 degrees.
The ATH-M70’s are also perfect for DJ play.

As a general comment, the ATH-R70x is a very satisfying headphone!

But is it a bargain? is it worth it?
I think it is a little expensive.
But you’ll get your money’s worth!
ATH-R70x is such a product.
