This is a review of the audio technica ATH-M70x, which is very useful for mixing(´◔౪◔)◞
It’s really hard to mix in a limited home space,…
I envy those who have an environment where they can blast their monitors, control the echoes, and monitor accurately.
I’m always mixing by trial and error, somehow or other.
These headphones are a great ally for computer music!
audio technica ( オーディオテクニカ ) / ATH-M70x サウンドハウス
Been using it for a few days now, so here’s my review!
Open the box!
Now for the actual review!
The ATH-M70x seems to be the flagship model of Audio-Technica headphones.
Because it was quite pricey,…
Open!
Out came the sleek case and the warranty card. I was thrilled.
The Audio Technica logo is really cool, isn’t it?
As a side note, this is the first time I’ve bought an Audio-Technica product for computer music..
Holy shit! This is it! The body is cool too!
Comparing it to my Sony MDR-CD900ST, I can already feel a sense of luxury in the air.
The ears seem to rotate 90 degrees.
It’s also perfect for DJ play.
It comes with three types of cords. There are two long and two short straight cords, and one curly cord.
The plugs are all mini, but you can change them to 1/4 phone size by fitting a conversion phone plug (already included).
You can easily plug it into your smartphone for everyday use!
Let’s just listen to the sound.
No aging or anything, just plug it into the audio interface and listen to the sound!
I played it with ANTELOPE AUDIO Discrete 8 Synergy Core.
The Discrete 8 has a clear and elegant sound.
First Impressions
The very first thing I felt was, “It’s got so much depth, and the top and bottom are so well balanced! Wow, good!” And that was it.
It certainly sounds like it’s made to be easy to mix!
I can say that the way it sounds is similar to monitor speakers.
And here are my impressions after a few days of aging and getting my ears used to it.
Thoughts after a few days
My impressions after using it for a few days, comparing it with my own headphones.
-手持ちの定番ヘッドフォン-
These are three of the most frequently mentioned names in computer music headphones.
From left,
If you listen to them alternately, you’ll find that they have interestingly different characters.
The following are my impressions of each headphone.
SONY ( ソニー ) / MDR-CD900ST サウンドハウス
- The way the fine tones sound is much easier to hear.
- The whole sound comes to the front as if it sticks to you.
- Depth is hard to see
- The bass is so clear that I’m not sure if I’m hearing it correctly.
- The sound is familiar and reassuring.
- Doesn’t hurt my ears even if I wear it for a long time (I might be used to it)
- Light weight
audio technica ( オーディオテクニカ ) / ATH-M70x サウンドハウス
- Low frequencies are tight and easy to listen to.
- Nice soft midrange with little harshness.
- Good depth.
- Great balance of all bands.
- It’s easier to tell the difference between a good mix and a not-so-good mix
- I found something to reflect on that I hadn’t been paying attention to
- It’s going to be hard to get used to the crimped feeling in my ears
- Heavy weight
AKG ( アーカーゲー ) / K240MK2 モニターヘッドホン セミオープン型 サウンドハウス
- Low frequencies sound the best.
- It’s hard to see the details because of the lumps around the mid-low range.
- It is difficult to see the texture of the sound in the low-mid range
- Depth is the best among the three types
- Doesn’t hurt my ears even when I wear them for a long time
- Light weight
Is the audio technica ATH-M70x less peculiar?
These are my impressions after listening to the other two types.
Even taking into account the fact that different people will have different impressions of the ATH-M70x, I think they are generally in line with the reviews that have been posted on the Internet.
The sound is very well balanced and easy to listen to, with few quirks.
It certainly seems to be easy to mix.
The sound quality was just as I had imagined from Audio-Technica.
Perhaps it’s because of the structure of my head and ears, but I find the ATH-M70x difficult to use for long periods of time. My neck gets tired.
“Sony’s MDR-CD900ST is more tiring!” I’ve seen some people say that.
This may be a point of personal difference.
I’m waiting for the physical hardness of the headphones to come off!
Is this going to be enough to complete the mix?
“I want an easier headphone mix!”
This is the purpose of this installation, but it may be difficult to complete the mix by itself.
I think it is necessary to use monitor speakers as well.
However, I was excited to see that I could push my work quite a bit with just my headphones.
It is also safer to have a headphone as a reference.
Computer music creators who can’t play loud music at home will definitely benefit greatly from this, including the way the low frequencies sound.
I think I’ll continue to use the headphones for detailed processing, and check the volume balance and localization of each track on the monitors.
Oh, how I wish I had a studio-like room…
Maybe the open ATH-R70x would have been better?
Perhaps the open-ended ATH-R70x from the same lineup would have been more suitable for my purposes?
audio technica ATH-R70x サウンドハウス
I’ve never used an open-type headphone before, so I kind of avoided them, but I heard that this one is lighter and the bass goes out, so it sounds more like a monitor speaker.
As long as you don’t mind sound leakage, you may get better results with this one in the mix.
I may try it again soon, I’m not sure.
I don’t think the ATH-R70x is suitable for use in audio applications that require taking them outside.
If you use open-type headphones on the train, you will have a serious problem with sound leakage.
It’s better to enjoy them in your home.
On the other hand, the ATH-M70x has very little sound leakage, so it’s perfect for going out!
Increase the number of axes of reference
There is no doubt that the headphones and monitor speakers you are familiar with will give you the most power in the mix.
People say, “You can’t mix with the Sony MDR-CD900ST! “,But I use it a lot.
But I don’t believe in all of them, I use them as a reference because they are the easiest to use.
The SONY is weak when it comes to bass, so I’m going to use the AKG K240MK2 along with the audio technica ATH-M70x to find the right place!
I think that if you have many axes of reference sound (experience), you will be less and less likely to make big mistakes.
It’s been said that the number of experiences is the only solution to mixing.
summary
The more it soaks into your ears, the more it will give you new discoveries. audio technica ATH-M70x will be your new partner.
I want to get the ATH-R70x as well…
Thank you for reading to the end!
